Advanced Dental Hygiene

Healthy gums are essential to enjoying a comfortable and beautiful smile.

Since your oral health can change throughout your lifetime, we evaluate every patient with the utmost attention to your current gum health and medical history, and we also provide radiographic evaluation.

Using this information, we devise a plan that fits your lifestyle and needs in order to maintain the best oral health possible.

Routine Dental Cleanings and Exams

Maintaining a routine dental care habit is one of the best ways to support healthy teeth and gums as well as your overall health!

When you schedule a dental exam and cleaning in our Ringwood, NJ dental office every six months, we have the opportunity to examine your teeth and gums, identifying any potential conditions so that we can treat them before they worsen.

A dental cleaning every six months is one of the best actions you can take to maintain a healthy smile. Even if you brush and floss regularly, your toothbrush cannot reach every area – especially those areas just beneath your gums, where bacteria often collect.

Our dental hygienists are gentle, yet thorough, and remove all tartar (also known as calculus) that collects between dental cleanings.

Pediatric Dental Cleanings

Your child’s smile is precious!

At Family & Implant Dental, we take great care to ensure that your child enjoys excellent oral health as well as a positive experience in our dental office. We treat children of all ages! Our dental team is skilled at working with kids to educate them on how to take care of their teeth at home. If they need dental treatment, we make it a painless, educational experience that will keep them smiling.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you use an electric toothbrush, you will probably notice that it is easier to remove more plaque with less effort on your part. The important part of brushing is to use proper brushing techniques and fluoride toothpaste for the best results.

Here are some tips to get the most out of brushing your teeth:

  • Brush for at least two minutes.
  • Brush using the tips of the bristles – don’t press hard!
  • When brushing near your gums, use the brush at a 45-degree angle to gently reach slightly below your gums.
  • Change your toothbrush or toothbrush head regularly – at least every three months or sooner if it looks frayed.
  • Brush every surface of your teeth, including behind your teeth.
  • Brush at least twice daily – more if your teeth feel dirty or you eat sugary snacks.

An electric toothbrush can make accomplishing all of these tasks easier. They often come with timers and different settings that make brushing easier and more convenient.

For patients with reduced dexterity due to an injury or arthritis, an electric toothbrush can be easier to maneuver.

If you need help with brushing techniques, we are here for you! Our hygiene team is great at working with patients to achieve maximum oral health. It all starts with great home care!

Deep Periodontal Dental Cleanings

If you have had some changes to your medical history, take certain medications, or if it has been awhile since you visited the dentist for routine care, you probably have some catching up to do.

We can help! Periodontal disease puts your systemic health at risk, increasing your chance of heart disease and stroke, so addressing it as soon as possible is important.

Periodontal disease symptoms often start with tenderness and bleeding when you brush and floss your teeth. As it progresses, you may have bad breath, tooth mobility, and inflamed gum tissue. When left untreated, gum disease often leads to tooth loss and bone loss.

Our hygienists expertly remove tartar and infection-causing bacteria so your gums can heal. In some cases, we may apply a localized antibiotic treatment to assist with healing and prevent reinfection. Our hygienists provide gentle deep cleanings and educate our patients on how to help improve their home care.

Periodontal Maintenance

Patients who suffer from periodontal disease are more susceptible to it in the future. We will create a hygiene schedule that allows you to stay on track. For some patients, this may mean dental cleanings 3 to 4 times per year. At each appointment, we will evaluate your gums and provide a customized dental cleaning so you can enjoy healthy gums and a beautiful smile!
