Restorative Dentistry

Our teeth work hard for us every day. It makes sense that occasionally they sustain damage from decay, chewing, or trauma.

At Family & Implant Dental, we save your natural teeth whenever possible because it is the best way to protect your oral health and your smile.

We proudly offer durable, long-lasting, esthetic restorations that protect your teeth, provide comfort, and prolong their function. As with all dental treatment in our office, your comfort is important to us! Dr. Shah is gentle and will always make sure your tooth is numb prior to your dental treatment.

Tooth-Colored Fillings

Decay occurs when bacteria soften the protective enamel that covers your teeth. Once decay starts, it often continues unless it is treated with a dental filling. When you have a filling, Dr. Shah will remove the diseased portion of your tooth, leaving only healthy tooth structure. He will then seal your tooth using composite material that matches your natural teeth, giving your smile a seamless appearance.

Tooth-colored fillings provide protection without casting a dark shadow on your smile. We avoid the use of amalgam, which contains mercury. While the ADA has never found a link between the mercury in amalgam fillings and any health conditions, our patients appreciate the alternative use of composite – a mixture of BPA-free plastic and microscopic glass particles. This combination offers both strength and beauty.

Frequently Asked Questions

No one likes shots, but we make the process much easier by taking a little extra time and care with each of our patients.

Delivering anesthetic is all about the technique! Dr. Shah is has mastered the technique over the years because he knows that patient comfort is essential to people getting the dental care they need.

We can use a topical gel prior to delivering the anesthetic in order to make it the least painful process possible. What you feel is a slight pinch and a lot of wiggling. He does a great job of distracting you and makes the experience a lot more tolerable.

Don’t let the fear of a shot keep you from the dental care you need! If you are fearful about your dental appointment or you have difficulty getting numb, just let us know. We are happy to accommodate our anxious patients.

By seeking preventive dentistry and early treatment for conditions, you can often avoid problems altogether. We always make sure our patients are numb before starting treatment and make each procedure as comfortable as possible. Gentle dentistry is our goal!

Contact us if you have are in need of dental work so we can help you have a positive, comfortable experience every time!

Dental Crowns and Bridges

If your tooth becomes deeply decayed or part of it breaks off from an accident, chewing, or teeth grinding, we can often restore the health of your tooth using a dental crown.

A crown covers your entire exposed tooth structure, providing maximum support when chewing. We can match your crown to the color of your natural teeth so that it looks completely natural.

A dental bridge consists of three specially designed crowns to replace a missing tooth, giving you your smile back! Two support crowns, called abutments, hold a third crown in place. The third crown, which replaces your missing tooth, is called a pontic. A pontic is not rooted in your bone like a dental implant, so you will need to give it special care by avoiding hard or chewy foods and making sure to clean under and around it to prevent gum disease.

INLAYS AND ONLAYS

You can think of an inlay or onlay as a cross between a filling and a crown. Inlays and onlays allow us to repair your teeth without removing all of the external tooth structure. Inlays and onlays are lab-created, much like dental crowns, and provide support in cases where much of your tooth is still stable.
